Pedagogická Fakulta Univerzita Hradec Kralove

The University of Hradec Kralove is one of the young universities which were established after crucial social changes following the year 1989.

The Faculty of Education is the oldest of its faculties : it celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2009. It consists of twenty departments and one Institute, and offers academic education to students that want to major in Primary and Secondary teacher education. The subjects include the Social Sciences, Applied Psychology, Pedagogy and Languages. The Faculty also prepares students in the accredited study programmes of a non-teaching format such as tourism.

At the present time, there are more than 4,800 students enrolled in the Faculty’s bachelor, master and doctoral study programmes, both in the full-time and combined forms of studies. Besides these students, there are about 1,700 students enrolled in various forms of lifelong education. Around 550 professors work for the Faculty.

Five members of the Faculty’s specialised personnel have worked for our project : the Head of the French section is the coordinator for the Czech Republic and the Head of the Pedagogical section acts as a consultant for the Czech language.

The Faculty has a long tradition of cooperation with Czech and foreign institutions from Central Europe (Slovakia, Hungary and Poland). Since 2000 it has worked closely with other European institutions within the European programmes e.g. Erasmus for the mobility of professors and students. It participates in a large number of local and international projects. The EACEA Lingua 2 project SULLI "Sur le chemin du livre”, approved by the European Commission in 2009, was conceived and coordinated by the Faculty of Education in Hradec Králové.
